I would recommend notes by John MacArthur , Dave Guzik , Ray Stedman and John Walvoord to name just a few for an alternative interpretation of the prophetic passages in Matthew 13, 24,25 as yet future not as fulfilled in the past. Caveat Emptor! To wit , neither of these lists even give honorable mention to one of the best expositional commentaries ever published on the Gospel of Matthew, the four volume series by Dr John MacArthur.

MacArthur, John, Jr. The author often explains customs, gives views and reasons. In Matthew 13, he sees the fourth soil only as representing a genuinely saved person, and the leaven in a good sense. In Matthew 24, he views verses 15ff. Commentaries For Biblical Expositors- Dr. Jim Rosscup - highly recommended. See critiques on the top commentaries as rated by Challies and Mathison above. Overview This new devotional from Dr. Product Details About the Author. About the Author. Average Review. Write a Review. With Scripture, illustrations and stories, Tony and Jonathan get to the heart of loving God and loving people in these short entries. What I enjoyed most about the book was the way in which the entries got straight to the heart of issues rather than skirting around the central idea.

Further, the daily devotions are rooted in the gospel and are applicable to life in an everyday way. One of my favorite entries was on respect. Because each of us has been made in the image of God. The authors go in the week to explain that one way we show respect is how we treat things or people. I also enjoyed how Tony and Jonathan illustrated some of the central teaching of Scripture concerning salvation. He took the stinger right out of death. We know that death, although bad, is not the final story for the believer.

I know you will find something that will encourage you in the Christian faith in these pages. Thanks to Tyndale Publishers for the copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Tony Evans and his son Jonathan. It is geared towards the whole family, and personally it has challenged me to be a better husband and father. The devotional covers a variety of different topics ranging from Love, respect, and forgiveness.
